Fence Building Weekend

Got the first draft of our new house plans and still working on moving things out of the old place.  After things get finalized, the old homestead will no longer be our home.  But, in order for us to build a new home, we must provide a place for our horses.  Although I know our horses would prefer to roam all 80 acres, we must make a small area as a catch pen and a safe place for them to stay during construction of the new house.  Therefore, corner posts and braces must be put in and welded before the wire can be stretched.  So my boys, (country boy and drummer boy), spent the weekend getting that done.  I’m proud to say our drummer boy, with the assistance of his dad, (aka my country boy), cut the holes and welded in all the posts by himself and did a great job.

As my country boy was overseeing our drummer boy with the cutting torch and welder, I decided to go take a walk around the 80 and snap a few pictures.

Some photos of the pond that will be within the horse section.

A view from the back side of the big pond.
Up on that hill is where the back porch area of the house will be.

A reverse view from the previous photo of the big pond.
Note the bench I brought from the old place.  It's a great place to sit.

Some more photos from my walk around the big pond dam as the sun set.
Got a shot of the guys, putting in some posts.

This shot is one of my favorites.  It wasn't on purpose.  It snapped while I was walking along the pond dam.  After I seen it I thought, maybe it wasn't an accident.  A photo of God's handy work!

I don't claim to be a professional photographer at all.  But I'm pretty proud of capturing this moment.

While getting in several steps and a couple miles, I took some pics of my boys too, of course.   I even managed to get the drummer boy to stop for a few moments for another selfie.  Since this seems to be a trend within my blog, we must keep the tradition alive.

Our drummer boy, getting the posts moved to the right spot.

Humoring mom, stopping for a John Deere selfie!!

Carefully driving the posts.

Our drummer boy getting the job done.  Cutting the posts.
(He is not for hire....Yet)

"Mom, I don't have time for a picture, I'm busy".

March Madness!

So thankful to have the awesome parents that we do!  My mom and dad have been great, helping us in every way.  And country boy’s parents have been so kind to come help us when they can.  Even agreeing to spend Easter weekend with us and helping us move out of our old home.  It’s not going to be an easy job!  But if all continues as planned with the buyers, we’ve agreed to be moved out of the house by March 30th.  We will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs at the new place.  Affectionately named, The 80.  And we’ve told everyone to bring their fishing poles.  It’s the least we can do for all our family being kind enough to spend Easter helping us move.   This place is where my family has traditionally shared many Easter weekends, grilling, fishing, and riding horses.  So we are looking forward to many more family Easters together on the 80.
It has been such a blessing to have my dad’s expertise and his equipment.   Not to mention over the past several years my son has gotten the opportunity to learn from the best, (my dad), while getting to spend valuable time with his grandpa.  I got the opportunity to ride with my son in the bulldozer while he helped grandpa on the dirt work.  He's also an old pro when asked to jump in the backhoe as needed.  Still lots to do, but the rain was a blessing on what had already been done.  Now to continue on getting it just right.

My awesome dad on the tractor with the box blade.
The cows were less than impressed.

Allow me to introduce our son, our blessing.  He enjoys team roping, but has been known all of his life for his talent with playing the drums.  So the nickname, “Drummer Boy” seemed fitting for this blog.  (I can vision him rolling his eyes now, reading this.)  But, those of you who know him will probably agree that the blog name is perfect.

As his bulldozer passenger, I took the opportunity to grab some photos, along with a selfie. After all, I have a backhoe selfie already.  It only seemed right to have one in the bulldozer.  Especially with my son, the drummer boy, in the drivers seat.

We got a chuckle at the little windshield wipers that are in the front, side windows.
I guess we will be ready if we get caught in the rain...maybe a little.

During one of our trips to the 80 moving more outdoor things, it was such a beautiful day, we had to stop to enjoy the pond and let the dogs run.  Drummer boy hooked in over 10 bass.  I’m not to divulge anything more.  He and his cousins want to keep this fishing hole top secret.
By the way, this view is down from where the backyard of the house will be.

I absolutely can not wait to get out here and enjoy this beautiful land!!
Here is another view.  Sunset on the 80.  I can't take enough pictures.

Next up, the delivery of a shipping container for storage will be sometime next week.  And my country boy and drummer boy will begin welding corner posts for the horse fence this weekend.  I’m anxiously waiting to hear back from the designer on the house plans.  In the meantime, we continue to keep packing the old house up and moving forward on developing the 80.  I already feel like this is the shortest month ever. And it's already been bittersweet.  The last days in our old home.  I guess I better get back to my list of “to do’s”!
